A vulnerability has been found in Insteon Hub 1013 (Network Management Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file /mpfsupload of the component HTTP Server. The manipulation as part of a POST Request leads to a unrestricted upload vulnerability. An exploitable firmware update vulnerability exists in Insteon Hub running firmware version 1013. The HTTP server allows for uploading arbitrary MPFS binaries that could be modified to enable access to hidden resources which allow for uploading unsigned firmware images to the device. To trigger this vulnerability, an attacker can upload an MPFS binary via the '/mpfsupload' HTTP form and later on upload the firmware via a POST request to 'firmware.htm'.
The bug was discovered 06/19/2018. The weakness was presented 08/23/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at talosintelligence.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-3832 since 01/01/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
