A vulnerability was found in tcpreplay 4.3.0 beta1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function dlt_en10mb_encode
of the file plugins/dlt_en10mb/en10mb.c. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Tcpreplay 4.3.0 beta1. A heap-based buffer over-read was triggered in the function dlt_en10mb_encode() of the file plugins/dlt_en10mb/en10mb.c, due to inappropriate values in the function memmove(). The length (pktlen + ctx -> l2len) can be larger than source value (packet + ctx->l2len) because the function fails to ensure the length of a packet is valid. This leads to Denial of Service.
The bug was discovered 10/04/2018. The weakness was shared 10/03/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-17974 since 10/03/2018.
