A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Microstrategy Web 7. Affected is an unknown code of the file /WebMstr7/servlet/mstrWeb. The manipulation of the argument subpage
with the input value ../..
leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Microstrategy Web, version 7, in "/WebMstr7/servlet/mstrWeb" (in the parameter subpage) allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended SecurityManager restrictions and list a parent directory via a /.. (slash dot dot) in a pathname used by a web application. NOTE: this is a deprecated product.
