A vulnerability was found in LibRaw up to 0.18.7 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function quicktake_100_load_raw
of the file internal/dcraw_common.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. A boundary error within the "quicktake_100_load_raw()" function (internal/dcraw_common.cpp) in LibRaw versions prior to 0.18.8 can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and subsequently cause a crash.
The bug was discovered 03/15/2018. The weakness was shared 12/07/2018 by Laurent Delosieres with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-5805 since 01/19/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
