A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9/10/11 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component VBScript. The bug was discovered 12/11/2018. The weakness was disclosed 12/11/2018 by Ivan Fratric with Google Project Zero as confirmed security update guide (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-8619 since 03/14/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:
A remote code execution vulnerability exists when the Internet Explorer VBScript execution policy does not properly restrict VBScript under specific conditions. An attacker who exploited the vulnerability could run arbitrary code with medium-integrity level privileges (the permissions of the current user).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
