An issue was discovered in Qt before 5.11.3. A malformed GIF image causes a NULL pointer dereference in QGifHandler resulting in a segmentation fault.
The bug was discovered 12/04/2018. The weakness was released 12/26/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at blog.qt.io. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-19870 since 12/05/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
