An Open Redirect vulnerability for all browsers in Jupyter Notebook before 5.7.7 and some browsers (Chrome, Firefox) in JupyterHub before 0.9.5 allows crafted links to the login page, which will redirect to a malicious site after successful login. Servers running on a base_url prefix are not affected.
The bug was discovered 03/28/2019. The weakness was released 03/28/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.fedoraproject.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-10255 since 03/28/2019. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1204.001 for this issue.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 277811 (Fedora Security Update for python-notebook (FEDORA-2019-9e67979b2a)).
Upgrading to version 5.7.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
