HTTP Authentication Library on Nim Password Hash inadequate encryption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in HTTP Authentication Library on Nim (Software Library) (affected version not known). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Password Hash Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a inadequate encryption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-326. The product stores or transmits sensitive data using an encryption scheme that is theoretically sound, but is not strong enough for the level of protection required. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The HTTP Authentication library before 2019-12-27 for Nim has weak password hashing because the default algorithm for libsodium's crypto_pwhash_str is not used.

The weakness was disclosed 12/30/2019. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2019-20138 since 12/30/2019. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
