Adobe Macromedia MX 2004 products, Captivate, Contribute 2, Contribute 3, and eLicensing client install the Macromedia Licensing Service with the Users group permitted to configure the service, including the path to executable, which allows local users to execute arbitrary code as Local System.

The weakness was disclosed 06/10/2005 with Macromedia (Website). The advisory is available at macromedia.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-4708 since 02/02/2006. The attack can only be done within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at download.macromedia.com.
