The FTP client in Windows XP SP1 and Server 2003, and Internet Explorer 6 SP1 on Windows 2000 SP4, when "Enable Folder View for FTP Sites" is enabled and the user manually initiates a file transfer, allows user-assisted, remote FTP servers to overwrite files in arbitrary locations via crafted filenames.

The weakness was shared 10/11/2005 by Albert Puigsech Galicia as MS05-044 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-2126 since 07/02/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
