Buffer overflow in University of Washington imap server (uw-imapd) imap-2001 (imapd 2001.315) and imap-2001a (imapd 2001.315) with legacy RFC 1730 support, and imapd 2000.287 and earlier, allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via a long BODY request.
The weakness was disclosed 06/25/2002 by Marcell Fodor as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-0379. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
