Directory traversal vulnerability in TYPSoft FTP server 0.97.1 and earlier allows a remote authenticated user (possibly anonymous) to list arbitrary directories via a .. in a LIST (ls) command ending in wildcard *.* characters.

The weakness was presented 07/03/2002 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-0558. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 14706 (TYPSoft FTP Server LIST Command Traversal Arbitrary Directory Listing), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FTP and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 27167 (TYPSoft FTP Server File Retrieval Outside Ftproot Vulnerability).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
