The legacy <script> data-island capability for XML in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, and 6.0 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary XML files, and portions of other files, via a URL whose "src" attribute redirects to a local file.
The weakness was presented 09/24/2002 as MS02-047 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-0648. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
