A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in RealNetworks RealPlayer up to 10.5 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected is an unknown function in the library DUNZIP32.dll of the component RJS Skin File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow in RealNetworks RealPlayer 8, 10, and 10.5, RealOne Player 1 and 2, and Helix Player 10.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an .rm movie file with a large value in the length field of the first data packet, which leads to a stack-based buffer overflow, a different vulnerability than CVE-2004-1481.
The bug was discovered 11/10/2005. The weakness was published 11/10/2005 by Karl Lynn with eEye (Website). The advisory is available at service.real.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-2629 since 08/19/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
