Off-by-one error in the CodeBrws.asp sample script in Microsoft IIS 5.0 allows remote attackers to view the source code for files with extensions containing with one additional character after .html, .htm, .asp, or .inc, such as .aspx files.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was presented 12/31/2002 by Chris Anley with NGSSoftware (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1745 since 06/21/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/23/2019).
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1048 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. By approaching the search of inurl:CodeBrws.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
