A vulnerability was found in PHP Arena paFileDB 1.1.3/2.1.1/3.0 (Programming Language Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file pafiledb.php. The manipulation of the argument rate/email/download
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in pafiledb.php in PHP Arena paFileDB 1.1.3 through 3.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the query string in the (1) rate, (2) email, or (3) download actions.
The bug was discovered 10/20/2002. The weakness was released 12/31/2002 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1929 since 06/29/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 72 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:pafiledb.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
