Format string vulnerability in McAfee Security ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 2.5.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an HTTP GET request with a URI containing format strings.

The bug was discovered 05/01/2002. The weakness was released 03/17/2003 by Ollie Whitehouse and Andreas Junestam with @stake (Website). The advisory is available at atstake.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0690 since 07/12/2002. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/10/2019).

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 320 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11409 (ePolicy Orchestrator HTTP GET Request Remote Format String), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers, running in the context r and relying on port 8081.
