The web-based administration capability for various Axis Network Camera products allows remote attackers to bypass access restrictions and modify configuration via an HTTP request to the admin/admin.shtml containing a leading // (double slash).

The weakness was released 05/27/2003 by Juliano Rizzo with CORE Security Technologies as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2003-0240 since 05/01/2003. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/23/2019).
