A vulnerability has been found in Six Apart Movable Type up to 2.5 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Textbox Handler. The manipulation of the argument name
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Movable Type before 2.6, and possibly other versions including 2.63, allows remote attackers to insert arbitrary web script or HTML via the Name textbox, possibly when the "Allow HTML in comments?" option is enabled.
The weakness was presented 06/16/2003 as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-0287 since 05/13/2003. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 2.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
