of the file wangguard-user-info.php of the component WGG User List Handler. The manipulation of the argument userIP
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity.
The weakness was shared 02/05/2023 as 14. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-20177. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
By approaching the search of inurl:wangguard-user-info.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Applying the patch 88414951e30773c8d2ec13b99642688284bf3189 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The advisory contains the following remark:
When showing user info from WGG users list, user IP was passed through URL without sanitization. After this commit the user IP is no longer needed in the URL as the screen will get the IP from WGG tables instead.
