Axis Network Camera 2.40 and earlier, and Video Server 3.12 and earlier, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via accent (`) and possibly other shell metacharacters in the query string to virtualinput.cgi.

The bug was discovered 08/16/2004. The weakness was shared 08/22/2004 by bashis (Website). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-2425 since 08/18/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
