Applying the patch d6c21fd8187c5db2a50425ff80694149e75d722e is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:

Defend against RCE and XSS; modernize.
RCE was theoretically possible depending on how strict cgi.parse_header() reads Content-Type. If it ever returned shell metacharacters, those would be passed directly to the shell.
