A vulnerability was found in phpPgAds 2.0.5 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file adlayer.php. The manipulation of the argument language with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in phpAdsNew and phpPgAds before 2.0.6 allow remote attackers to include arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the (1) layerstyle parameter to adlayer.php or (2) language parameter to js-form.php.

The bug was discovered 08/17/2005. The weakness was published 08/23/2005 by DiGiT with Pine Digital Security (Website). The advisory is shared at xforce.iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-2635 since 08/20/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:adlayer.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
