The send-private-message functionality (send-private-message.asp) in PD9 Software MegaBBS 2.1 allows remote attackers to read private messages of other users via a modified replyid parameter.
The weakness was shared 01/09/2006 by Hamid Ebadi (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-0139 since 01/09/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:send-private-message.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
