Heap-based buffer overflow in dtsession for Solaris 2.5.1 through Solaris 9 allows local users to gain root privileges via a long HOME environment variable.

The weakness was shared 03/31/2003 by NSFOCUS with NSFocus (Website). The advisory is available at sunsolve.sun.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0092 since 02/11/2003. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at securityfocus.com.
