The atalk_sum_skb function in AppleTalk for Linux kernel 2.6.x before 2.6.21, and possibly 2.4.x, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via an AppleTalk frame that is shorter than the specified length, which triggers a BUG_ON call when an attempt is made to perform a checksum.
The bug was discovered 04/06/2007. The weakness was published 04/10/2007 by Jean Delvare (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-1357 since 03/08/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Upgrading to version 2.6.x eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
