MySQL before 4.1.23, 5.0.x before 5.0.42, and 5.1.x before 5.1.18 does not require the DROP privilege for RENAME TABLE statements, which allows remote authenticated users to rename arbitrary tables.
The bug was discovered 05/08/2007. The weakness was disclosed 05/08/2007 by TippingPoint with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared for download at dev.mysql.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-2691 since 05/15/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Upgrading to version 4.1.23 eliminates this vulnerability.
