Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.15, Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 and earlier, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.10 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors related to the JavaScript engine.
The weakness was disclosed 07/02/2008 by moz_bug_r_a4 with Mozilla as MFSA2008-22 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-2799 since 06/20/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 33399 (CentOS 3 / 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2008:0547)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115851 (Mozilla Firefox and SeaMonkey Multiple Vulnerabilities).
