A vulnerability was found in Oracle Database Server 10.1.0.5 (Database Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Oracle Database 10.1.0.5 and 10.2.0.3 allow remote authenticated users to have unknown impact via (1) DBMS_JAVA_TEST in the JavaVM component (DB01), (2) Oracle Text component (DB09), and (3) MDSYS.SDO_GEOR_INT in the Spatial component (DB15). NOTE: a reliable researcher claims that DB01 is SQL injection in DBMS_PRVTAQIS.
The weakness was presented 07/18/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-3853 since 07/18/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56057 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (July 2007 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5545.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (35490) and Tenable (56057). See 37905, 37904, 37903 and 37902 for similar entries.
