A vulnerability was found in DM Guestbook up to 0.4.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file guestbook.php. The manipulation of the argument lngdefault
with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in DM Guestbook 0.4.1 and earlier allow remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in (1) the lng parameter to (a) guestbook.php, (b) admin/admin.guestbook.php, or (c) auto/glob_new.php; or (2) the lngdefault parameter to auto/ch_lng.php.
The weakness was shared 11/02/2007 by GoLd_M (Website). The advisory is shared at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-5821 since 11/05/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
