The bug was discovered 08/12/2008. The weakness was disclosed 08/12/2008 by Damian Put (iDefense) with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-3460 since 08/04/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3354 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
