The XPConnect component in Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.17 allows remote attackers to "pollute XPCNativeWrappers" and execute arbitrary code with chrome privileges via vectors related to a SCRIPT element.
The bug was discovered 09/23/2008. The weakness was shared 09/24/2008 by Georgi Guninski (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers as Bug 419848 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. Upgrading to version 1.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9130.
