The Cisco Linksys WVC54GC wireless video camera before firmware 1.25 sends cleartext configuration data in response to a Setup Wizard remote-management command, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information such as passwords by sniffing the network.
The bug was discovered 01/03/2008. The weakness was released 12/08/2008 by Greg Linares with eEye as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4390 since 10/02/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 340 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
Upgrading to version 1.19 eliminates this vulnerability.
