The LaunchObj ActiveX control before 5.2.2.865 in launcher.dll in Symantec AppStream Client 5.2.x before 5.2.2 SP3 MP1 does not properly validate downloaded files, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via the installAppMgr method and unspecified other methods.

The bug was discovered 01/15/2009. The weakness was presented 01/20/2009 by Will Dormann with CERT as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-4388 since 10/02/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/24/2019).
