Unspecified vulnerability in the Advanced Queuing component in Oracle Database 9.2.0.8, 9.2.0.8DV, 10.1.0.5, and 10.2.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to affect confidentiality and integrity, related to DBMS_AQIN. NOTE: the previous information was obtained from the April 2009 CPU. Oracle has not commented on reliable researcher claims that this issue is SQL injection in the GRANT_TYPE_ACCESS procedure in the DBMS_AQADM_SYS package.
The bug was discovered 04/14/2009. The weakness was released 04/15/2009 by Esteban Martinez Fayo (iDefense) with Application Security, Inc. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-0977 since 03/19/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Python. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56064 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (April 2009 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19463 (Oracle April 2009 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8052.
