Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in RealNetworks Helix Server and Helix Mobile Server 14.x before 14.3.x allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of administrators for requests that cause a denial of service (stack consumption and daemon crash) via a malformed URL.
The weakness was released 04/02/2012 by Tom Gallagher (Agent) with Microsoft Vulnerability Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at helixproducts.real.com. The public release was coordinated with RealNetworks. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-1985 since 03/30/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 251 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
