ir32_32.dll in the Indeo32 codec in Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2 and SP3, and Server 2003 SP2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap corruption) or execute arbitrary code via malformed data in a stream in a media file, as demonstrated by an AVI file.

The weakness was published 12/12/2009 by iDefense Labs (TippingPoint) with TippingPoint and the Zero Day Initiative as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-4313 since 12/12/2009. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 43089 (MS KB955759: Security Enhancements for the Indeo Codec), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
