Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.16 and 3.5.x before 3.5.6, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.1, allows remote attackers to spoof an SSL indicator for an http URL or a file URL by setting document.location to an https URL corresponding to a site that responds with a No Content (aka 204) status code and an empty body.

The weakness was disclosed 12/17/2009 by Morgan (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-3984 since 11/19/2009. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 43355 (CentOS 4 : seamonkey (CESA-2009:1673)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165665 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update Mozilla Firefox (SUSE-SA:2009:063)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
