Heap-based buffer overflow in the HX_split function in string.c in libHX before 3.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a string that is inconsistent with the expected number of fields.
The weakness was released 08/24/2010 as Bug 625866 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-2947. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/23/2021).
