Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in UserControls/Popups/frmHelp.aspx in SmarterStats 5.3, 5.3.3819, and possibly other 5.3 versions, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the url parameter.
The bug was discovered 06/04/2010. The weakness was shared 09/03/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared at osvdb.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3425 since 09/16/2010. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Hoyt LLC Research and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 92 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:UserControls/Popups/frmHelp.aspx it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
