Buffer overflow in the smiGetNode function in lib/smi.c in libsmi 0.4.8 allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via an Object Identifier (aka OID) represented as a numerical string containing many components separated by . (dot) characters.
The weakness was presented 10/20/2010 by Core Security with CORE Security Technologies (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-2891 since 07/27/2010. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
