net/ipv4/inet_diag.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.37-rc2 does not properly audit INET_DIAG bytecode, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (kernel infinite loop) via crafted INET_DIAG_REQ_BYTECODE instructions in a netlink message that contains multiple attribute elements, as demonstrated by INET_DIAG_BC_JMP instructions.
The issue has been introduced in 03/20/2006. The weakness was published 12/10/2010 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at spinics.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3880 since 10/08/2010. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1726 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
