The issue has been introduced in 03/05/2008. The weakness was published 03/10/2011 as MS11-018 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-1346. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1100 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 9 or 10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS11-018 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
