Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in CSCOnm/servlet/com.cisco.nm.help.ServerHelpEngine in the Common Services Device Center in Cisco Unified Operations Manager (CUOM) before 8.6 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the tag parameter, aka Bug ID CSCto12712.

The weakness was presented 05/20/2011 by Sense of Security (Website). The advisory is available at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0962. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed by Sense of Security and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56485 (Cisco Unified Operations Manager < 8.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

Upgrading to version 8.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11512.
