Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in login-with-ajax.php in the Login With Ajax (aka login-with-ajax) plugin before 3.0.4.1 for WordPress allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the callback parameter in a lostpassword action to wp-login.php.
The weakness was disclosed 05/22/2012 with Dell SecureWorks (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-2759 since 05/18/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
By approaching the search of inurl:login-with-ajax.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13041 (WordPress Login With Ajax Plugin "callback" Parameter Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 2.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
