The virTypedParameterArrayClear function in libvirt 0.9.13 does not properly handle virDomain* API calls with typed parameters, which might allow remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (libvirtd crash) via an RPC command with nparams set to zero, which triggers an out-of-bounds read or a free of an invalid pointer.
The weakness was presented 08/07/2012 by Petr Matousek (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3445 since 06/14/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74713 (openSUSE Security Update : libvirt (openSUSE-SU-2012:0991-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks.
