of the file afmparse.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Heap-based buffer overflow in the linetoken function in afmparse.c in t1lib, as used in teTeX 3.0.x, GNOME evince, and possibly other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a DVI file containing a crafted Adobe Font Metrics (AFM) file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-2642.
The weakness was shared 11/19/2012 by Jan Lieskovsky as Bug 679732 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-0433. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75479 (openSUSE Security Update : evince (openSUSE-SU-2011:0279-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165487 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for t1lib (SUSE-SU-2012:0744-1)).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
