A vulnerability was found in 3s-software CODESYS Gateway-Server and classified as very critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in 3S CODESYS Gateway-Server before 2.3.9.27 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors involving a crafted pathname.
The weakness was disclosed 02/24/2013 by Aaron Portnoy with Exodus Intelligence (Website). The advisory is shared at ics-cert.us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4705 since 08/28/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
