Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in cgi-bin/create_user.cgi on QNAP VioStor NVR devices with firmware 4.0.3 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of administrators for requests that create administrative accounts via a NEW USER action.
The weakness was released 06/07/2013 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0144 since 12/06/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13154 (QNAP Turbo NAS Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability (NAS-201306-01)).
