A vulnerability was found in OpenX 2.8.10. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file www/admin/plugin-index.php. The manipulation of the argument parent with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in admin/campaign-zone-link.php in OpenX 2.8.10 before revision 81823 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the ids[] parameter in a link action.

The weakness was disclosed 10/10/2012 with High-Tech Bridge SA as HTB23116 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at htbridge.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-4990 since 09/19/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.

After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at htbridge.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 9 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:www/admin/plugin-index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying the patch 81823 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at svn.openx.org. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (79196). The entries 6633 and 62744 are pretty similar.
